Being one of the tallest and striking building along the shopping street, I would always take a few look from the outside and had a little itch whenever I walked past Mandarin Orchard. Last year, Mandarin Orchard had an amazing promotion for Safra members (probably the only time Safra membership is useful). The premier room with club lounge access was costing around SGD200++ per night, which was incredible.
Having stayed for a weekend, I thought to myself that I would probably never return again unless I could get it at the same rate again. If you are planning for a countdown party or intending to catch the fireworks and aerial show for national day, Mandarin Orchard may be a good choice to consider as some rooms are facing directly towards the Marina Bay.
Mandarin Orchard- Premier Room
Their premier rooms are the highest category room (exclude suites) and are located on the higher floor. Although this 33sqm room is newly refurnished, I find the design too plain for a luxury hotel. There were nothing much special in this room, even though I was a little obsessed light fittings (evidently shown in the next few pictures). Nevertheless, they still have a cozy King-sized bed and a large 42-inch LED TV, which made my stay a cozy one. Considering the price that I paid for, I can't complain much. It was still a great deal.
Although the furnishings are kept to the minimum, the location of the hotel is excellent. Right outside the hotel is the main shopping street- Orchard Road. The whole hotel is divided into two towers and I was staying at the main tower. The room that I was assigned offer a splendid view. If you are planning for a countdown party or intending to catch the fireworks and aerial show for national day, you may consider Mandarin Orchard if they offer a good price.
Whenever I visit a new hotel, I always love to check out their bathroom amenities. It often implied how much attention and spending they placed for their guests. I love those that comes with fragrance and are from renowned brands. To my disappointment, the shower amenities were normal. I think Novotel Singapore provides better selection than Mandarin Orchard even though they are also using in-house brand. If you like to take a bath, you may be disappointed as well. Even for their premier rooms, there are no bathtubs. Instead, they have 2 wash basin.
Club Lounge
For this stay, I booked the Premier room with club lounge access. Some important benefits are as follow:
- Express Check in and check out on the Club Floor - Breakfast at the Lounge - Afternoon tea - Evening cocktail from 6pm to 8 pm daily - Pressing or normal laundry of 2 pieces daily, non-accumulative
Same as the club lounge in Pan Pacific Singapore, it is housed at the crown of the hotel, on the highest floor. Thanks to its circular floor plan, it offers a panorama view around the city. During my stay, I spent half of my time in the lounge although the air-con was too cold for me. I was happy to see that the lounge is more interesting than the room. Most of the food were not bad and I was surprised to find a variety of selections (since their room is boring). I would actually recommend to have the breakfast at the lounge instead at their restaurant. Even though the restaurant offers greater choice, the food was not that great.
Bottomline
If you are looking for fascinating experience, I would not recommend Mandarin Orchard. For pool lovers, you are not going to love this place as well. The pool is small and there were lack of loungers. I skip the pool throughout my stay.
Unless they are offering an unusual low rates for their borderline rooms, it is worth considering. I noticed that their restaurant Triple Three offers one-for-one buffet frequently. However, having tried their breakfast during my stay, I am carrying some doubts for their lunch buffet even though I have not tried before.
