After some tug of war on deciding between Conrad or Hilton for a staycation, I ended up at Conrad Singapore for the Marina Bay view. Thanks to the new cash+point redemption system, Conrad Singapore was made very much affordable although their rooms are outdated as compared to other good hotels in the vicinity.
My booking was made one tier below the executive room on purpose and we eventually got upgraded to executive room with lounge- thanks to Hilton Gold status. Check-in at the lobby was pretty swift but service touch was to bare minimal (even at the executive lounge). In addition, check-out was a disaster as the staff were questioning on the upgrade and did not acknowledge our executive lounge benefits. We were also asked to pay for the complimentary pressing until we insisted her to check on the details. No apologies was given as well. So here goes some of the pictures of the executive room. It is the same as the classic rooms. However, do take note that Conrad Singapore has started refurnishing its hotel rooms.
Part 1- Executive Room
This executive room that I had was very spacious (fear not, claustrophobic) but lingered the typical odour of an old room. During the day, it was naturally well-lighted. Facing the Marina Bay, I was able to enjoy the scenery while lying down on the king sized bed. However, catching a show from the TV was a little uncomfortable as I had to lean on the side. Apart from that, a short of electrical sockets was a problem as well. During my stay at Conrad, we were showered with plenty of gifts. Apart from the daily fruit platter, I also received a box of pralines, birthday cake and souvenirs. There was also a Nespresso machine where I could make some coffee to pair with the cake.
Before you leave your room for your evening cocktail at the lounge, do ring up the housekeeping early for the evening turn-down service and order the pillows that you fancy before they run out of stock. Other complimentary room service also includes shoe shine and light-pressing (the latter is only complimentary for executive floor guest).
Part 2- Executive Lounge
The executive lounge benefits are as follows:
1) Executive floor benefits: - Complimentary WIfi, local calls and 3 light pressing during day of check in. 2) Executive lounge services: - Lounge access from 0630 to 2300, complimentary use of meeting room for 2 hrs per day, music CD and DVD for loan (minimal selections) 3) Food and beverage services at lounge: - Breakfast from 0630-1030 on weekdays, 0630-1100 on weekends. Alternatively, you can have your breakfast in their main restaurant. - Afternoon tea from 1500-1700 - Evening cocktail and canapes from 1730-2000.
Evening cocktail and canapes.
The lounge at Conrad Singapore is pretty huge. You can basically choose which direction of the view you want to have (be it Marina Bay or city view). However, you do want to be there early for evening cocktail as it got full very quickly when I was there. They even set up an alternative lounge in one of their presidential suite.
Based on my personal experience, I was disappointed that the lounge attendants were nowhere to be seen most of the time. I also observed that they tend not to strike a small casual conversation with the customers. Probably it is just my personal preference, I prefer the service attitude in Conrad Bangkok. The staff would strike a conversation and go an extra mile to ensure a comfortable stay in their hotel and the city. Lastly, the drink selections were definitely a big disappointment for the alcoholics. Apart from those normal wines that are rather hard to drink (at least for me), you can also choose to order in-house cocktails- limited to Sea Breeze II, Russian Velvet, Whiskey Sour. For breakfast, I chose to have it at their Oscar restaurant. As expected, Oscar has much wider selection than the lounge but very crowded on weekends. Nevertheless, a freshly made sunny side up and a decent oatmeal did kick start my day right.
