Flight Review: Singapore Airlines, Premium Economy Class
SQ 327 Munich To Singapore Boeing 777-300ER What are your thoughts on Premium Economy Class? Would you pay double the price to travel more comfortably? While the Economy Class seat products across all airlines look somewhat similar, I think that the Premium Economy Class products differs from one airline to another. Some products may look very much similar to the economy class, others appear very differently. I think that Singapore Airlines has developed an unique Premium Economy Class. Not only it looks different from other cabin classes, it can be differentiated from its competitors, just like how unique their business class are.
Flight Details
Munich Franz Josef Strauss Airport - Singapore Changi Airport Dep: MUC 13:25 Arr: SIN 07:10 (+1) Total Duration: 11Hrs 45Mins Aircraft type: Boeing 777-300ER Seat: 31H (First row in Premium Economy Class) Seat Configuration: 2-4-2
Premium Economy Class Seat Product
The Singapore Airlines premium economy class are fitted on certain Airbus A380 and Boeing 777-300ER. Both aircraft types adopted the 2-4-2 seat configuration, with each seat measuring up to 19.5" wide (19" in economy class). With 38'' seat pitch, it provides much better legroom than the economy class. To get the greatest comfort, the first row (row 31) of the premium economy class is the best choice.
Besides the front storage where the magazines were placed , there is another small storage area at the side of the seat near the remote control and a bottle storage area in between the seats. If you are always on your personal gadgets on the flight, the seat provides great convenience to keep all of them charged. There are 2 USB ports and an AC adapter for each seat.
Before The Meal Service
As I was seated beside the emergency exit, I could only draw out my screen when the flight climbed to a certain flight level after take-off. The Premium Economy Class feature the latest generation of in-flight entertainment system by Panasonic, complimented with a set of noise-cancellation headset. The in-flight entertainment system comes with a 13.3” touch screen TV and a remote screen control. The screens are in high resolution and are intuitive. Even if the light is shining towards the screen, you can watch your show without trouble.
Before the lunch service, the cabin crew made several rounds to offer some pre-meal drinks and snacks, hot towel and amenity kit. The amenity kit provides a pair of socks and a dental kit. Eye-shades and ear plugs were available on request.
Meal Service - Lunch
For Premium Economy Class, there are 3 meal options onboard (instead of 2 in economy class). The Book-The-Cook service is also extended to Premium Economy Class where the passengers can choose their meal for up to 24hrs before the flight.
The above appetizer is the Roasted Chicken with Potato Chive Salad. For the main dish, I ordered the Kaesespaetzle- Cheese Dumplings with pork in mushroom sauce, broccoli and roasted onion. As usual, there was another round of drink service after the meal service. At Singapore Airlines, there is a spectrum of beverage choices for economy class passengers. On top of the usual choice, premium economy class passengers can also opt for some champagne.
Premium Economy Class Lunch and Drink Menu:
During The Flight
After the meal service, I basically spent my time catching some sleep and watch some movies. There were plenty of options in the Krisworld entertainment. Some movies were on cinema 3-4 months back.
Throughout the flight, the flight attendant would walk around the cabin with some drinks occasionally. There were also snacks available for a small indulge. Snacks menu:

Breakfast Service
At about 2-3 hours before landing, the flight attendant commenced the last meal service. For the main, I opted for the Kaiserschmarrn- Panfried sweet pancake with sour cherry compote and vanilla sauce. As mentioned earlier on, there were also 3 choices for the breakfast. One thing I love about flying with Singapore Airlines is that they always cater different kind of breakfast instead of the conventional omelette and sausage breakfast.
Premium Economy Class Breakfast Menu:
Picking the flight with the new seat product.
As we all know that Singapore Airlines is progressively refitting their Boeing 777-300ER to the latest seat product, some aircraft has yet to be refitted. If you are hoping to try out their new product (any cabin class), I would suggest to pick the flight that has premium economy class. If the aircraft that you picked has premium economy class, it is very likely that they had refitted the whole plane with the new seat products. Thanks Zax! You are right. I will make the necessary amendment. Meanwhile as SQ are looking to renew their suite, it is likely that they will refit all cabins in future.
