Typically, many would consider chalet resorts when finding a place near the beach to host a small stayover gathering. However, many Singapore chalets often offer mundane designs with old furnishing, and sometimes even filled with musty smell. If you are looking for a place around East Coast Park, you should not miss this out. Grand Mercure Roxy Hotel, a 4 stars hotel managed by AccorHotels, is just within walking distance. Grand Mercure Roxy Hotel is ideally situated in one of the Singapore's prime estate- Marine Parade. Just right behind the hotel is a cultural mix historical area- Katong. Katong has become one of the spotlight in the east, for the great food and burgeoning night life. ROOM TYPE: Deluxe Room Comfort: 3.5/5 Service: 3.0/5 Furnishing and facilities: 3.5/5 Price: SGD200++ The use of the soft browns and wooden furnishing has definitely made this newly renovated room more comfortable and welcoming. One thing I like the most about this room is the king size bed. As compared to other 4 stars hotels, I personally feel that they have the best bed. I like it when there is extra cushioning on top of the mattress. Their pillows are big and they really supports my head and neck well. Besides that, the room is really spacious, unlike other 4 stars hotels. The room is so cosy that I could laze in bed the whole day in bed and watch my favourite Star Worlds. There is nothing much to complain about this room except for the shower head. It is fitted high up with minimum adjustments. I prefer it to be a portable one, which would bring more convenience. Beside this, the room is clean and the lighting has made the room more smoothing and cosy. The service team is generally efficient and knows the products well. They are approachable and helpful. However, I did not have a good impression and did not feel welcomed when I was checking-in. The agent was dull and ignorant. I believe she is one of the supervisor as she was better dressed. It was quite a disappointment. The Pool and Gym Both the pool and gym are located on the 4th floor. For sun-tan lovers, you can have a good sunbathe at an elevated area just beside the pool, with rows of sun loungers there. Even though the pool and gym are relatively small, the contemporary look still makes the place attractive. It can get quite crowded at the pool sometimes. LOCATION Grand Mercure Roxy Hotel is located at East Coast Road, opposite Parkway Parade Shopping Center. It is just 15 mins ride away from city centre and Changi International Airport. At the front of the hotel, it is the East Coast Park. You can view the sea if you have the room at the upper floors. It is just 15 mins of walk to the park. Behind the hotel is the Katong, an area filled with Peranakan culture where you can find a lot of famous food and cafes. To list down a few along the street, they have the famous Katong Laksa, Brotzeit, AwfullyChocolate/Ninethirty, Mookata, Penny University cafe, We are the Furball (pet cafe). It gets really lively during the evening and weekends. You can also take a short direct bus ride to the famous Old Airport Road Food Market or Tanjong Katong Street. Due to it's strategic location, Grand Mercure Roxy Hotel has attracted a lot of business and leisure travellers, as well as Airlines like Sri Lankan Airlines, Eva Air & Malaysia Airlines to accommodate their flight crews for a stayover stop. The hotel provides extensive shuttle service that cover places like Ion Orchard, Marina Bay, Esplanade, Paya Lebar Station and Changi Airport(half an hour interval). It is an ideal place for tourists who want to have a better experience of Singapore culture and a good choice for staycation to experience and explore the gem of the east, a new burgeoning night scene.
