Flight Review: Singapore Airlines, Old Economy Class Product
SQ970 SIN-BKK Boeing 777-200 Singapore Airlines has always been top in the chart. If you are a frequent flyer and have flown with many airlines, you could clearly see the distinct differences between Singapore Airlines and other carriers. Being the leading company in the industry, Singapore Airlines has paid alot of attention to every detail, providing top notch service to passengers.
It was a 7:10 flight in the morning, a Boeing 777-200 operating as flight SQ970 to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport. This aircraft type has a 3-3-3 seat configuration on the Economy Class. The total duration is estimated 2hrs 25mins.
THE SEAT
The economy class seat on Boeing 777-200 is probably the oldest design that they currently have. To my surprise, they are very comfortable. The back support and the seat itself are adjustable to your own comfort. There is a button on the right side of your seat cushion where you can release or inflate some air. I wouldn't mind having this seat on a long haul flight. Even though its a short haul flight, the basic pillow and blanket were provided.
KRISWORLD IN-FLIGHT ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
The non-touch screen is small and it is quite reflective. Initially, I thought it is channel on-demand, meaning to say you can only watch limited selected shows on the channels available without able to pause it. However, I was so glad that even the old product is video on-demand. Just like other usual SQ aircraft, you can select any show or music on the menu and play it anytime you want. Channel on-demand is quite commonly found on other airlines' old product. An example would be Cathay Pacific. You can find it on certain Hong Kong flights unless they have refitted their seats.
HOT TOWELS
Hot towels is distributed to all passengers after boarding, even on Economy Class. This was what I needed to freshen up myself in the early morning. Hot Towels is usually distributed to Business/First Class passengers on other airlines. It cost additional amount for airlines to cater this.
MEAL SERVICE
I was given 2 options, the English Breakfast or Seafood Thai Noodles. The Seafood Thai Noodles was surprisingly full of flavors and delicious. It was a daring choice as seafood meal onboard is usually tasteless and hard to chew. FYI, our taste bud will differ in altitude. It will be less sensitive than on ground, hence our perception of sweetness and saltiness will decline. My friend had chosen the English Breakfast. It was some scrambled eggs with something else which I could not recall. The overall meal presentation was pleasant and appetizing, with steel utensils and glassware provided instead conventional plastic utensils and paper cups.
After the meal service, there will be a second round of drink service when collecting the used trays. Singapore Airlines offers a generous selection of drinks, especially liquor and alcoholic drinks. I had Baileys on the rock while my friend asked for Whisky Coke.
THE CABIN CREW
The ladies and gentlemen onboard were poised and well articulated, yet friendly and approachable. No wonder Singapore Airlines is renown for their high standards of cabin service and hospitality. The feeling and experience is really more special as compared to other carriers. I have came across cabin crew from other carriers who were quite arrogant and declined my request just for her convenience. Just as I was settling down after the crew have completed their meal service, the flight stewardess and leading stewardess came from the back and gave me a surprise. A special thanks to my friend for arranging this for me. Even though the passengers around us were looking at us, I was really touched.
It was a chocolate mousse cake with 2 Singapore Slings. Besides that, I was given a handwritten birthday card, poker cards, postcards and a little teddy bear.
SINGAPORE AIRLINES FLIGHT TIMETABLE: SIN-BKK
Singapore Airlines currently has 6 daily flights to BKK, including a codeshare flight operated by Ethiopian airlines. If you pick a Boeing 777-200 flight, you are very likely to have the same features and seats as what I have posted here. A330-300 has larger screens with newer seats and features.

On the directions, it demonstrates the Kuhi in its pack appended to the outside of a man's gear. Simply realize that on the off chance that you run with this choice, you'll need to get your own gadget to connect it.
