When we talked about Bangkok, everyone will be like "Oh, I miss Chatuchak market. I bargained so much at Pratunam market, better than my mum does. You should go Silom to have an massage." and so on. It is unarguably one of our most favourite and frequently visited destination among us.
However, there is one place in Bangkok that seems to be miss out by many - Banyan Tree's Vertigo and Moon Bar.
It was an extraordinary experience being at one of the highest outdoor rooftop restaurant and bar in Bangkok, located on the 61st floor. I was totally mesmerized by stunning scenery around me. It felt as though I was at the highest point, enjoying the breeze while overlooking the entire city, with no obstruction blocking the view. I believe you are thinking that it looks like a bow of a ship from the picture. Indeed, it gave me an impression of being on board of a ship, sailing in the air instead. The Vertigo and Moon Bar take up the entire roof, which is elongated in shape.
This place may look very expensive. You will be probably surprised that I only paid less than 45 SGD for a glass of Balieys and coke whiskey with free flow snacks in a 5 star hotel. It is a typical price in Singapore, but comes without a view that is as good as I had. And yes, I mentioned free flow just now. The attentive waitresses will walk around and politely ask if you wish for more when they noticed the tray is getting empty. The snacks were pumpkin chips, Wasabi peanuts and something else which I could not remember. All of them were really superlicious that I could not resist myself to ask for the third time.
If you are willing to spend more, you can choose to have a fine dining at Vertigo. A set course meal for 2 cost more than SGD100. My only little disappointment was that they could not reserve any seat even thought I had booked my stay in Banyan Tree.
BANYAN TREE BANGKOK
Comfort: 4.5/5 Service: 4.5/5 Furnishing and Facilities: 4.5/5 Banyan Tree is renowned for its service. We truly felt it the moment we first reached the lobby. Since the hotel was just a walking distance away from Lumpini station, we took the train from the airport and made a short walk with our luggage to the hotel. However, it was short simple walk was a torturous one under the strong heat wave. The moment we were in sight, struggling in sweat with our luggage, the doorman immediately ran towards us and took over our luggage. It was then immediately followed by a warm smile together with the traditional hand gesture with a slight bow. " Sawasdee Krab.. Welcome to Banyan Tree." Lastly, he requested for our hands and put on the fresh smelling Thai flower garlet around our wrist before guiding our way for check-in. The initiative and little gestures really made us feel welcomed and heart warming. While checking in, we were each given a much needed welcome drink to cool down, accompanied with some lightening live music at the lobby.
ROOM TYPE: DELUXE ROOM
Price: SGD 160++ to SGD250++
Banyan Tree tagged their product as a sanctuary for the senses. Before we booked our stay with them, we have heard about how impressive their rooms are. Their deluxe room not a typical room. It is really spacious and more like a Junior Suite, featuring a contemporary design with a soft touch of Thai aesthetic. Their 48m² deluxe rooms are located high up on 33rd to 49th floor, having a choice of city north or river south view.
There were something different to look for in this room everyday. Each day and evening service came with different selection of incense stick and essential oil that helped to enliven the mood during the day and relax our soul at night. Besides that, we were offered different set of tropical fruits each day and pampered with a small Toblerone chocolate at night, placing at our bedside accompanied with an Orchid flower. At the end of our stay, we were also a small soft elephant key-chain made up with Thai silk cloth as a farewell gift. Both the living room and bedroom have its own TV and French window by the side that gives you a panoramic view of the city and shines up the whole room with natural lighting. The bedroom has sufficient walking space with a King size bed but not really for twin beds. I will usually go for the room with King size bed since twin beds could make the room more compact and less spacious.
Their bath amenities are unlike typical shower gel and shampoo. The liquid stored in the black ceramic toiletry containers are much thicker and richer than any kind of product I have use before. I believe they are specially made by Banyan Tree Spa, an subsidiary of Banyan Tree. You can also find Banyan Tree Spa and fitness club at Marina Bay Sands hotel.
No one will ever get bored at Banyan Tree Bangkok. There are so much things to do! If you love the sun, you can take a swim on the 21st floor, followed by a sun tan on the cushy sun lounger or end off with a short session in the Sauna and Steam room. If you want to burn off some calories after countless of sinful meal in Bangkok but find it bored working with machines , you can join their Yoga, Aerobic, Pilates, stretching and step lesson. If you can't get enough of Thai food, you can even sign up a cooking class with the chef.
LOCATION
Banyan Tree Bangkok is located at Sathon district. It is about 5 mins walk away from Lumpini Station and 10 mins walk away from Silom station. There is a complimentary shuttle bus and tuk tuk service that bring you to both stations. On the weekend, the shuttle bus will drive to Chatuchak Market too! If you are not familiar with Bangkok, you should approach the concierge as they are very knowledgeable and informative. I was really surprised that they even have a complimentary shopping companion service! Banyan Tree Bangkok 21/100 South Sathon Road Sathon, Bangkok 10120 Thailand
P.S That is me in the picture with the cool looking Tuk Tuk driver at the front.
