Hotel Review: Hilton Berlin.
King Executive Room (Dome view) & Executive Lounge
This was my very first stay at a good hotel in Europe. They are incredibly expensive in most European cities and most of them are deem invaluable to me since the rooms are typically small and outmoded. However, things are different in Berlin. Since the hotels in Berlin are surprisingly affordable, we booked our accommodation with two different hotels under Hilton Group in my previous Germany trip . Before moving to Waldorf Astoria (which was mind-blowing!), we had a few nights at Hilton Berlin with executive lounge access.
Even though their rooms have been renovated, the features are kept pretty simple. However, it has given us one of the most unique view. Directly in front of the hotel is a cathedral which has full of statues standing at the rooftop. It was creepily interesting to have them staring into our room, especially at night.
King Executive Room (Dome view)
The Hilton Berlin is located in the city center, with most of the major attractions within walking distance. Immediately in front of the hotel is the historic Gendarmenmarkt from the side, which housed the French and German Cathedrals and the concert house. Our room was situated on one of the top floors facing the German Cathedral, which provides the best view the hotel has to offer.
The King Executive room is actually very reasonably spacious, considering the fact that the hotel building is more than half a century old. Many other good hotels in the city offer a smaller room in similar old buildings.
Things are kept pretty simple within this recently renovated room. It has all the basic features that made our stay easy and comfortable, especially the King-size bed and the flat screen TV that is filled with many international channel selections. What we appreciated the most were definitely the daily replenish-able bottled water and the Wifi access which is complimentary for Hilton Gold members.
Besides the unique view from our room, the shower amenities from Peter Thomas Roth are one of the things I love the most. This brand produce one of the best moisturizer which many cabin crew love.
Executive Lounge
One of the best part of my stay was definitely the executive lounge access. Oh boy, who doesn't love the free flow food and drinks all day long? The executive lounge provides daily breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktail hour. In between the main timings, they offer an extensive choice from the fridge and the coffee machine, along with some nuts, energy bars and fruits. Their wasabi nuts were really addictive.
Evening Cocktail Hour
Afternoon Tea
Honestly speaking, I do not find the food particularly exquisite and delicious. The choices were not extensive as well. However, I am quite amazed to see that most of their drinks came in bottles, including the water in the lounge and in our room. Isn't it more expensive to have glass bottle than cans? I have no idea.
The staff in the lounge were really friendly and approachable. It was easy to talk to them and seek for some advise. They also specially prepared a table of small surprise for my friend's birthday during our day of check-out.
Restaurant Beletage- Breakfast
Just forget about having breakfast at the lounge if you have the access. The main hotel breakfast at restaurant Beletage is so much more extensive, so much tastier and so much appealing. In fact, this was one of the best hotel breakfast I ever had.
At restaurant Beletage, customers can request their type of breakfast dishes from the live kitchen. Otherwise, the restaurant can provide you with choices like Belgium waffles, French toast, pancakes and eggs with any kind of cooking style. One thing I fascinated the most was to try many of their house-made items.
Main Indoor Facilities
As we hardly have indoor pool in Singapore, I actually find the pool in Hilton Berlin fascinating. Even though the place may appear to be compact, it is almost like a sanctuary. There were hardly anyone around when we were there. There were no noise, except the continuous light echo of the water flow. Behind the indoor pool is a really big enclosed area for sauna, food bath and steam. However, it is only available free for Hilton Diamond member.
Bottomline
The location has brought us great convenience for sight seeing as many main attractions are within walking distance. If you are considering to book your accommodation with Hilton Berlin, I would recommend you to choose the package with dome view and complimentary breakfast. Their breakfast was one of the things that I always looking forward for everyday. As for the executive lounge, I would not recommend unless there is not much price difference.
