Hotel Review: Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore, Shangri-la Group Hotel.
(Formerly Traders Hotel) One-Bedroom Suite In case you do not know me personally, I am still too young for a marriage! Last December, my eldest sister has tie the knot with her husband at Hotel Jen Singapore. It may be the influence of Shangri-la Hotel, I felt that Hotel Jen Singapore has outperformed at certain areas than many four-star hotels in town. Rare enough, Rare enough, this upscale four-star hotel has an extensive spa facilities.

During that day, I arrived the hotel ahead of everyone to prepare the set-up for the solemnization and the wedding dinner. Besides the Christmas flavored welcome drink for every guest at the counters (which is rare service for a 4 star hotel), I had an interesting check-in experience. For the first time, I was checking-in for three different rooms (1 superior, 1 deluxe and 1 suite), which did not take much time for the associate to complete.
As I first entered the suite, I was not very surprised. It was the bedroom where I entered. Even though I love their beige colour scheme which brings up some elegance, I felt that the suite is a little compact and old style, particularly some of the furniture choice (For instance, the really antique table clock, night table and switches)
Just in front of the lounging couch along the window is the other entrance that leads to the separate living area, where another surprise awaits. I am pretty impressed by the decoration and other complimentary arranged for the newlywed.
Inside the box was 6 different types of macaroons. The way that the hotel presents its service is very thoughtful and interesting.
The above is not all yet. As I opened the fridge in the living area, there were more complimentary items. Typically, the fruit cups are only provided for Shangri-la golden circle members while the bottled water is complimentary in all rooms.
This 50 sqm suite is made out of 2 identical rooms (25sqm), with both living area and bedroom fitted with its own TV and bathroom. Even though the entire suite is a little bit old style, I still like the vintage looking carpet and furniture picked for the living area, which brings out a certain degree of sophistication.
As I mentioned previously, both bathrooms in the living area and bedroom are identical, where the shower fitting is fitted above the bathtub. The bath amenities in all rooms are in-house brand.
Overview of the suite:
One thing worth mentioning is the facilities in the hotel, Beside the large hotel pool within a garden setting, they also have a 24hr gym and a indoor health club where you can enjoy free access to sauna, steam room and whirlpool. This is not commonly found in typical four-star hotels.
Bottomline:
If you are looking for a staycation or an accommodation at orchard area, this is an good alternative for the tight-budget. As part of re-branding effort, the club lounge was under renovation in last December. I believe that the hotel will progressively renovate their rooms as well. This hotel is also one of the better upscale four star hotels I have seen so far, in terms of facilities and service. Additionally, they have shuttle bus service to some shopping centre along Orchard Road and CBD area as well.
