Grand Hyatt Singapore
AFTER 6 at 10 Scotts. If you have been following my blog, you should know that choosing an afternoon high tea buffet at Royal Plaza on Scotts (Carousel) over Grand Hyatt (10 Scotts) was one of my worst decision ever. To make myself feel more guilty about it, I pulled my friend to Grand Hyatt on that evening after Carousel to check out what exactly they were offering at 10 Scotts. Surprisingly, I made a discovery that I am so proud of. Besides their afternoon high tea buffet costing at S$43++ , which looked so much tastier; they have a similar dining concept for their evening dinner buffet at S$38++. Seriously, where can you find a dinner for such rate in a 5 star hotel in town?
Unlike the conventional buffet dinner with an extensive selection, AFTER 6 at 10 Scotts offers a club-lounge dining concept with selective range of food. Not to worry, the taste and quality of food are definitely not compromised. The selection are also better and wider than the executive club lounge of any hotel.
For S$38++ per person (both weekdays and weekends), it comes with 2 tier of savoury items, hot dishes from the live kitchen, fresh oysters, fine French and English aged cheese, cold cuts and desserts paired with free flow tea and juices. As mentioned that this is a buffet, everything is refillable and replaceable, served on Bernardaud dinnerwares. 2 Tier Savoury Items
The 2 tier savoury items includes Sushi, Sashimi, Soba, Dim Sum, Curry Puff and the CRAB CAKE.
The CRAB CAKE has stoled the spotlight from all other items. Look at the beautiful golden crust, this perfectly fried crab cake is heavily stuff with fine sliced of crab meat, complemented with tartar sauce at the base. While waiting for the 2 tier savoury items to come, you can first slurp up some fresh and cool oysters and make an order from the chef at the live kitchen.
Live Kitchen
The live kitchen were offering lobster bisque and steak cooked at medium well to well done. While I find that the taste of the lobster bisque were too strong for my liking, the sauce for the steak were really fantastic. I had a chat with the chef when I requested for a second serving. The sauce were made up with veal stock and brandy. Together with the french beans as the side, this dish is definitely a must-try.
French and English aged cheese, with fine sliced cold cuts.
Desserts
This chocolate tart is definitely one of the reason why you have to visit AFTER 6 at 10 Scotts. Under the thick dark chocolate cream hides the runny caramel that rudely overflow upon the first bite. Instead of stealing the stage, the lightly sweeten caramel perfectly complements with the dark chocolate cream. If you are craving for something cold, there were a few different types of sorbet to try out.
Drink Selection: Juices or Hot/Iced flavoured tea
Bottomline
For just SGD38++ per person for a light buffet dinner at such prime location and hotel, I think it is a hack of a deal in town. Even thought it is a small buffet spread, the taste and the quality are not compromised. However, I find that there is a shortage of staff at 10 Scotts. The serving time was longer than I expected. It was interesting to see that the staff were brisk walking, while still maintaining their poise.
