When I had my staycation again at Grand Mercure Roxy Hotel a few weeks ago, my bestie and I were upgraded to their Executive room, the second highest category before the suite. To my surprise or maybe rather dismay, the Executive room does not have much difference between the Deluxe room. I was very satisfied with their Deluxe room previously as it was really cozy and comfortable. The colour scheme and room design is visually soothing and up to date, unlike many other 4 star hotels which have dull and moldy rooms. Hence, I was expecting more from their Executive room since they have done pretty well with their basic rooms. Ironically, likewise as the design in the Executive room, I realized that there is not much of a price difference to pay for an room upgrade. If you do not wish to burn a big hole in your pocket and yet wanting to have a good staycation with club lounge access, their executive room is actually worth paying for. Room Type: Executive Room Comfort: 3.5/5 Service: 3.0/5 Furnishing and facilities: 3.5/5 Average Price: SGD280++ Typically in other hotels, their executive room with club lounge access would definitely cost more than SGD100 per night or sometimes even double the price of the basic room. For an additional price of SGD60-SGD90 at Grand Mercure, you get a better room at the executive floor (highest 2 floor) with club lounge access. At the club lounge, you get to enjoy continental breakfast, all day refreshments and evening cocktail & canapes while having a great view of the sea. If you have seen my review on their Deluxe room, you will definitely agree with me that there is really not much difference. The Executive room in almost all hotels is commonly classified as a premium room with club lounge access, therefore I was expecting better room features and design. The Executive room in Grand Mercure looks slightly more chic than the other normal rooms, with an additional bolster that makes the already-very-comfortable bed even better for sleep. As you lie down on the king sized bed, you will realized that your body sinks a little as the additional cushioning on top of the mattress brings extra softness and fluffiness. Even though the size of the Executive room is the same as most of their normal rooms, you can easily maneuver around with your luggage left widely open on the floor. The rooms in Grand Mercure is generally larger than most of the 4 star hotels in town. Located on the highest 2 floor of the hotel, you will either get the great sea view or the Katong view. The toilet features and shower amenities are the same as other rooms, except that you have a sliding glass door instead of a shower curtain, which does not make any difference to me. The shower amenities are in-house brand. Location If you are a tourist looking for a 4 star hotel, I would recommend you to stay this hotel. Besides the convenient shuttle service to the airport, city and nearby train station, you get to experience how a typical Singapore living estate is like. Behind the hotel is the Katong, an area with burgeoning night life where you can find many famous eateries and cafes.
