Just before the last Christmas, me and Den did a one week Italy tour. Personally, I think December is one of the best month to visit Italy, factor in the crowd and cost. Our round trip ticket on Lufthansa from Munich to Rome was costing about 100 Euro p.p. We visited 6 cities and the average one way train ticket was costing around 15 Euro p.p. If you are interested to do a one week tour in Italy similar to what I had, I think the lowest minimum cost you can go could be around S$1500 p.p. [Round trip flight from Singapore on Oman Air est. S$800, train tickets around Italy est. S$300, Airbnb for 7 nights est. S$400]
I am going to blog about my Italy trip in 3 separate posts. In the remaining two posts, I am going to share my thoughts and some of the best photos that we took at Rome, Venice and Napoli.
MILAN
PISA FLORENCE Although it is quite common to smell pee and step on cigarettes butt on the street once in a while in Germany, I think Germany is freaking clean. When I was in Italy, I felt that there was a need to clean my shoes every third day or so. Before the trip, I was feeling doubtful when Den repeatedly warned me that as we go further down the country, it will get scarier. This is actually very true! Venice, Milan, Florence and Pisa were kind to me. Rome was full of bird droppings and bad traffic. Additionally, I always had to be beware of the pickpockets and those Africans that were hanging around the street, trying to put a friendship band on my wrist. Napoli was completely in a bad shape. It was the scariest city I have ever visited so far. You can clearly see poverty and illegal activities once you step out of the main railway station. We did Milan, Florence and Pisa in 3 days and we were in Rome before that. As Rome is rather big and has a lot of interesting places to explore, I found that these 3 cities were quite boring. What left me the most impression were the people in Milan. I think that the people in Milan are generally friendly and helpful. We met 3 people who offered help when we were trying to figure our way to Airbnb. With regards to dressing sense, there were many “queen” or in other words, people who dress up like as though they were going for a runway walk. Besides this group of people, many others dressed very well while not being too overstated. Stay tuned for future travelogue on Rome, Venice and Napoli.
