If you are into miles collection, you should click into this post to find out how this partnership can be beneficial to you. Alaska Airlines may be an unfamiliar name to many of us living outside the US. However, its miles is so valuable that you should not be missing out.
1) Why is Alaska Miles so valuable?
Alaska Airlines is currently in partnership with multiple airlines where you can use Alaska miles to redeem air tickets of other airlines. Out of all the selection, those that I personally focus on are Cathay Pacific, Emirates and Japan Airlines. For this post, I will just use the redemption chart for Cathay Pacific for illustration purpose.
"Asia to Asia" is basically referring to whatever destinations Cathay Pacific (CX) flies to. In case you may not know, you are able to make a free stopover with an one way ticket. To make things simpler, you get to fly from Singapore to Tokyo with only 22,500 Alaska miles and enjoy two business class flights and free business class lounges at Singapore and Hong Kong. Most frequent flyer programs are not that generous. If I were to redeem CX flights for the same routing via British Airways program, I would already need to use 40k Avios miles. 2) What to know about the partnership with Alaska Airlines and Singapore Airlines? Starting from 27 Sep, 2017, both airlines offer reciprocal mileage earning while mileage redemption will commence at later date (to be released). The chart below shows Alaska miles earning rates for travel on Singapore Airlines. Flight must be marketed and operated by Singapore Airlines, with eligible flight numbers from 1-699 and 800 to 999.
3) Other feasible ways to collect Alaska Miles (apart from flying)
As for as I know, we (based in Singapore) have the following limited options to collect Alaska Miles: 1. Starwood Preferred Guest transfer to Alaska Miles at 1:1 ratio 2. Purchase Alaska Miles during lucrative bonus miles promotions that happen few times a year. (Hence, it is worth signing up their newsletter) If you have other feasible ideas, do drop a comment below. That's all I have! Ciao~
